Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria

H.E. Amb. Tuggar, Yusuf Maitama is a graduate of International Relations from the United States International University, San Diego California, and holds a master's in International Relations from the prestigious University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

He has had a long career in the oil & gas sector as an entrepreneur and consultant, carrying out acclaimed studies in the field and offering his service on the boards of several companies.

Tuggar, Yusuf Maitama has a robust political career, serving as a Federal legislator for Gamawa Federal Constituency from 2007 to 2011. He actively contributed to various committees and councils in the House of Representatives such as the House Committee on Public Procurement, the Committee on Petroleum (Upstream), the Sub-Committee on Local Content, the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the House Committee on Legislative Budgeting and the Committee on Agriculture.

Ambassador Tuggar was appointed Ambassador, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nigeria to the Federal Republic of Germany in 2017 and in August 2023, concluded a second tour. During his tenure as Ambassador, he engineered several innovative enterprises and diplomatic endeavours between Nigeria and Germany, some of which included the initiation of repatriations for 1,130 lost Benin artefacts from the German government, leading to
the return of 22 Benin Bronze looted artefacts valued at over €100,000,000, opening up global conversations on the repatriation of cultural treasure, the critical negotiation leading to the establishment of the Nigeria Presidential Power Initiative/Siemens Power Projects,
the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending
(NIRSAL) & Petkus Technologie GmbH agreement as well as brokering the SolarKiosk Solutions GmbH Partnership and the $50, 000,000 fund for Venture Platform of Nigeria from the AfricaGrow Fund (Allianz Global Investors)

In recognition of his commitment to national development, he was awarded the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), a special national honour award of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In August 2023, Tuggar, Yusuf Maitama was sworn in as the 29th Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Ahmed Tinubu administration, and he continues his drive to apply his experience in the area of International Relations for the benefit of the country, showing values of innovation, hard work, diligence , excellence and outstanding insight.
